K-State Innovation Lab lands $750K award to study sorghum, millet in Madagascar

Researchers in a Kansas State University innovation lab that develops technologies to improve the resiliency of sorghum and millet production have received $750,000 to spur the crops’ production and value in Madagascar.

USAID Supports Madagascar Team to Attend Sorghum and Pearl Millet Exchange and Technology Transfer Meeting Hosted in Niamey, Niger

A multidisciplinary team from Madagascar was recently in Niamey, Niger, to join the Sorghum & Millet Innovation Lab (SMIL) West Africa annual review meeting. The meeting organized by SMIL, which is managed at Kansas State University, benefited the Madagascar team with cross-exchange opportunities with National Agricultural Research Systems, farmer associations, small-scale women food processors, seed companies, and the larger SMIL research for the development community.

K-State joins with Georgia to help improve farming conditions in Madagascar

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded $2.5 million to support work by Kansas State University and the University of Georgia aimed at helping farmers in Madagascar improve their growing conditions in the face of recent climate changes.
